Back in Kathmandu for some serious work this time.
Papoose House is ready and we're sorting our samples,
setting up my office (bright yellow with orange borders along the windows
and doors, white woodwork and white felted nuno curtains...very un-Nepalese...)
Starting our QC system, lots of labeling involved....
It was very hot and steamy weather but I enjoyed it a lot, especially while thinking about the cool Melbourne temperatures.
(With New Zealand temperatures soon to follow)
As always time went too fast but we did manage an all girl 2 day road trip to Pokhara.
A long drive over mountain roads; hairpin corners and maniacal drivers who all want to get there (where??) first..
I loved it!
New rule:
Everytime I go to Nepal I want to go somewhere new. Bindi, Nanu, Didi and I had a great time together,
there were some concerns about me driving and not having any boys with us, but
we managed quite well!
We also got a lot of new samples finished, healthy felt food (by demand!), new animals,
some craft products...the papoose story goes on and on...
Some photos from this trip:
Buddha's Birthday
Sundhara
Lots of candles, great atmosphere.
This is the oldest (certified) temple in Kathmandu, 1500 years old. Amazingly beautiful,
the workmanship in the detailing of the eaves, the doors and other decorative areas is
quite something to see.
Maheswor and Sugam
Sugam already 2 years old...time is flying
Love the eyes on the elephant...
keep a look out, these will appear somewhere on a Papoose design...
...
Sangita and Sugam in the background, Ma and me with the Snake God...
Some girls playing..
Pokhara, here we come
4 girls, a Tucson and 200kms....
Taking off on the road trip
We hit traffic straight away, note the goats on the bus roof top...
Seven hours later, we're there.
Our hotel is across the water, the small platoon is pulled manually by the rope.
Breakfast was good...until I discovered my foot had been breakfast for some naughty leech
Blood everwhere but no leech in sight, thank God!
(No permanent damage, thanks for asking!)
Our room. I was finally made Nepalese, with a dark red tikka denoting married woman...
trying hard not to laugh for the photo, this is my serious look!
The girls ready for our boating trip on the lake, Didi in the front, Bindi and Nanu in the back.
The little island in the middle of the lake, of course it had a temple. It was a really nice
place, very shaded with lots of trees and a lovely little temple. I'm still trying to work out
how the girls got to the front of the (long) queue so quickly....
I love this photo of Didi, she is totally gorgeous!
I never want to go home again....will need some sunscreen though.
And maybe a cushion for my butt......
The kids were happy when we were back home again. Irwin on the left, Sugam on the right.
