June 2009
Another escape from wintry Melbourne,
Nepal is in the midst of summer heat,
humid days warming up early in the morning with light relief at night.
Unfortunately that's when the mozzies come out too........
still it was worth enjoying the cool night breezes, sitting on the roof top
terrace enjoying my ipod music. (I counted 36 bites just on my feet!)
![]() Some proof I do work while in Nepal!
We're working on a large rock, to be used as a mould for
rock sit saks.
![]() I'm not the only one working...
there's many hubs of activity. The crochet/knit room.
![]() Packing up the dried out wool.
![]() Laying out the wool roving prior to felting.
![]() Our didi's! Preparing food for everyone.
Work only makes Jill dull etc etc...
A little trip into the country area around Kathmandu
![]() Kids playing.............
![]() Sugam sleeping........
![]() Water running........
![]() Renske walking............
![]() Some family time:
Sangita, Maheswor and Sugam.
There was a festival on during my first week there
![]() This photo was taken at night when it was really dark, the exposure
time was rather long, hence the unfocused end result. The big thing
in the middle (I don't know what it is called) is the object of the festival.
It is carried along on a platform supported by four gigantic wooden wheels,
a kind of cart made without using nails. It gets moved from location to location
according to the moon's position. We had a full moon, loads of people, lots of
small candles, all together very atmospheric.
![]() ![]() ![]() The small boys collect the nearly empty candle holders, refill
them and resell them.....
and it is fun playing with fire!
