Who is Colours of Australia and what do they do?
In 1991 Colours of Australia started life as a small business making and selling hand painted fabrics.
It's owner, Renske Carbone, designed ranges of napery and furnishing fabrics, later expanding into bed linen and soft furnishings. Everything was made in Australia until 1999 when the business started going off-shore to explore other opportunities.
From 2000 the business expanded rapidly into many new products such as hand painted rainboots and matching umbrellas and raincoats, to garden gifts, bags, and home wares. Working from their own facilities in China, the business had a major change in 2005 due to copy right problems; our copy rights were not respected by our manufacturers and some of our customers.
Looking for new and more pleasant ways of working, the company ended up in Bangladesh and then Nepal where a renewed focus on textiles gave birth to a whole new range of products: Papoose Felt. Renske's personal interest in textiles has given the company new direction and purpose: aware of the changing world and changing needs of the customers the company started working with natural fibres and has been exploring natural dyes/dyeing. Pupucci, a women's fashion label was born in 2009 and has a focus on all natural fibres including a range of naturally dyed fabric including silk and wool.
In 2012 we launched an all Australian range, EFA (Eco Fibre Australia) dyed with natural dyes and made in Melbourne. Fabrics include Silk and Merino, Bamboo and Merino, Milk and Merino and a 100% Merino, all knitted right here in Melbourne.
